Pedestrian Zone Vienna City

A new, unmistakable identity for the Vienna city; a robust yet subtle and elegant background for the theatre of life. The city’s living room is taking on a new structure and shape.

The concept of »music notation« sees two surface patterns as abstract matrix for directional (Kärntnerstrasse, Graben) and non-directional (Stephansplatz) paving; differently coloured foundation slabs (staves) of granite in combination with special colours (notes) in the form of lines and abstract crosses.

New trees (magnolia kobus) were planted on Kärntnerstrasse, hugged by spaciously dimensioned wooden seating decks. The front restaurant gardens – »Schani« gardens – were re-dimensioned and restructured to create more space, walking convenience and overview potential for all users.
