Senior Citizens Centre Liebigstraße

A senior citizens centre with 120 nursing beds and day centre – life in rhythm with the times of the day and seasons of the year. The design responds to its heterogeneous surroundings with two simple, autonomous cubic buildings (4-storey) oriented on the road and the alignment of the nearby rectangular detached buildings (residentail).

Both the senior citizens centre and the day centre are connected via the conjunctly used foyer. The community rooms are grouped around a spacious inner courtyard. The day centre is the intermediary between the urban surroundings (Liebigstrasse) and the inner courtyard and is conceived as open, visually transparent and green zone. A nursing station is set up on each of the third floors.

»The project is impressive for its interpretation of urban development and the clarity of its structural solution, and remains … a valuable contribution to the set task.« – Excerpt from the jury report
