Algersdorf School Campus

The competition area is situated in a heterogeneous, small-scale environment. The concept is a reaction to the low surrounding structure with a single-storey learning landscape. The all-day school area with assembly hall, dining room and special study rooms is centrally located between the NMS (New Middle School, existing) and the connecting clusters in the south. Class and group rooms are gathered around a central “marketplace” directly connected to the garden / outdoor area. A certain priority was given to creating efficient sightlines between the individual rooms, ensuring orientation and overview for pupils and teachers.

The selected formulation of the individual facilities supports an efficient infrastructure for accessing the outdoor areas, which have simultaneously been extended. An intriguing system of routes and special areas is also paralleled outdoors, offering diverse learning and school-break situations. In this way the children can rediscover their school every day.

»We see the concept of a single-storey learning landscape as an innovative contribution to the contemporary discussion about school buildings.« – Excerpt from the jury report
