Atrium – Living in Waidmannsdorf

South of the city centre of Klagenfurt 4 cubic volumes (with a covered atrium in the middle) are situated on the perimeter in accordance with the urban fabric surrounding the area.  A little shift in positioning the volumes creates different urban spaces in between the buildings and permits the pedestrians to cross the area easlily.

The structure oft he buildings is based on a construction grid of 3,75 / 3,75m. The different functions are positioned in layers around the central atrium. The outermost layer is conceived as a filter strip of balconies & terraces which increases the percentage of allocated free space of each flat up to 20-25%. The clear room hight is min. 2,80m.

The facade will be cladded in couloured wood . The windows will be „french“ windows. The „shelfing-system“ of the balconies is made out of steel and will incorporate shading elements and trellises for plants to grow.
